Hello again out there. Back in the urban jungle. I arrived in Sydney, finally, tonight. I took the train from a little farm town called Moree, a whopping 9 hours. Brutal. Well, on the way, the song "Just Like a Woman" came on my ipod. I thought, first, man I love this song(and haven't heard it for a while). Then I thought of my friend Cody. You see, Cody REALLY loves Bob Dylan. He loves Bob like I love Tom Petty. (A whole damn lot haha) Then I got to thinking about our many adventures around LA.
I personally really love portraits. Now, armed with my new camera, I hope to meet great characters to take portraits of in every city I travel. This one wasn't too serious, just my friend and I messing around one night in Venice Beach, California. But isn't that how a lot of cool things start? Just messing around. So let's kick it off. Sundays might just be the best day to hang out at Venice Beach. You have the rollerskating/dancing people. The muscle dudes workin' out. Some intense basketball. The great skate park, and the hippie drum circle. All, course, right at the awesome boardwalk on Venice Beach. One of the greatest places to see some true characters. I really love taking photos at night. And the little accidents that happen from the slow shutter speed and movement. Cody is a good friend of mine. He is definitely a fellow nomad. He lives his life one day at a time. Odd jobs around LA. Crashing around town. He totally goes with the flow. And he is the only person I know in LA who doesn't have a car. Which is no small fete! His normal stomping grounds are around West Hollywood and Hollywood. Cody meets more random people than anyone I know. And I love that about him. From walking and biking around, he's always got a good story. And, as anyone who lives there knows, there is some full on crazy in those neighborhoods. I think every time I meet up with Cody he's got another good story for me. From run ins with Larry King to run ins with transsexual hooker sex behind a dumpster, yes he's always got good stories. I think he needs to write one of the books like "The Road" by Jack London (which inspired the more famous "On the Road." by Jack Kerouac.) So here's to you fellow nomad and friend. And here's to a great musician whose music takes up a large chunk of your record collection.
"Venice; where the weird go pro!"
